Nintendo UK is urging consumers to purchase DSi units early as shortages are expected by the holidays. Nintendo’s UK general manager David Yarnton clarifies that Nintendo doesn’t hold stock back as it has been accused of in the past, saying:

“One of the things that people don’t seem to understand is that factories are producing constantly; they don’t peak and trough. So we’re producing product all the time, but then everyone wants it all at the one end of the year. It’s just so hard to try and keep up.” More on the potential DSi shortage

The new Nintendo DSi handheld console is coming to Europe in April. Expected to retail at £149.99 in the UK, the DSi is the second upgrade to the hugely popular DS console. Featuring larger, brighter screens, an SD card slot and two motion sensing cameras, the new console is, nevertheless, thinner than the previous version of the console, the DS Lite. Hundreds of people queued to be among the first to buy Nintendo’s latest games console on Saturday, as the Japanese electronic giant unveiled the DSi, featuring a built-in camera and enhanced sound.
